Car parks
Good news: parking in Highworth is free. Swindon Borough Council's charged car parks are all in central Swindon, so none of its pay-and-display machines reach the town. Here are the places to leave the car.
Brewery Street Car Park
Free Main car parkThe main public car park, just off the town centre and a short stroll from the High Street. It's owned and run by Highworth Town Council, which took it over from Swindon Borough Council along with the public toilets on the site — so this is the one car park where you'll also find the loos. A local guide notes a 48-hour maximum stay applies in the Brewery Street and Parsonage Court car parks, so always check the signs on arrival.
Market Place (The Square)
Free Short stayParking bays right in the heart of town, on the historic Market Place. A local guide reports two hours' free parking on weekdays, with no restrictions on Sundays or after 6pm. The square hosts the Saturday market, so bays there are closed off from Friday ahead of market day — read the signs before you leave the car.
Highworth Recreation Centre
Free Leisure centreThe leisure centre on The Elms has its own free car park, and Halo Leisure — the charity that runs the centre — confirms it's free for members and non-members alike. There are disabled bays by the entrance, and the centre is home to the town's Changing Places toilet. Handy if you're visiting the pool or gym, or the nearby Home Farm area of town. The centre is open Mon–Thu 7am–10pm, Fri 7am–8.30pm and Sat–Sun 8am–2.30pm — more on what's inside on our sport & recreation page.
Aldi customer car park
Customers EV chargingThe Aldi supermarket on Lechlade Road has a customer car park on the edge of the town centre. It's intended for shoppers — but it's also where you'll find Highworth's public EV chargers (see below).
On-street parking
Highworth's centre relies on free on-street bays, and they fill up fast on weekday mornings. A few local rules of thumb help.
High Street and town centre bays
Free Time limitedThere's free parking for about an hour on the southern side of most of the High Street on weekdays, and some stretches on the northern side too. Restrictions generally lift after 6pm and on Sundays, when parking is unrestricted. If you need a longer stay, head for Brewery Street instead. Always check the signs — restrictions can change, and Swindon Borough Council is the highway authority that handles enforcement.
Local tip: the easiest times to find a kerbside space are before 8am and after 6pm. Mid-morning on a weekday, go straight to Brewery Street and save yourself a lap of the square. Then browse the High Street shops at your leisure.
Blue badge parking
Accessible parking in Highworth is modest but workable.
Where to find disabled bays
Highworth Recreation Centre has marked disabled bays in its free car park, close to the automatic entrance doors. The Brewery Street public toilets have a wheelchair-accessible entrance, and the car park there is flat and right next to the town centre — a sensible first choice.
Blue badge holders should follow the usual national rules on yellow lines and time-limited bays; Swindon Borough Council manages on-street enforcement (01793 445500). We couldn't verify a published list of dedicated on-street blue badge bays in Highworth, so check the signage in the Market Place and High Street when you arrive.
Electric vehicle charging
Charging in Highworth itself is limited to one site, with rapid chargers a short drive away.
Shell Recharge at Aldi, Lechlade Road
Type 2 Up to 11kWThe Aldi car park has a small bank of Shell Recharge chargers, open to the public with no membership needed. They're Type 2 sockets at up to 11kW — fine for a top-up while you shop, but not rapid charging. Directory listings showed a price of around 55p per kWh; check the Shell Recharge app for the current rate before you plug in.
Public toilets
Highworth looks after its own loos — the Town Council stepped in to keep them open when many councils were closing theirs.
Brewery Street public toilets
7am–7pm daily 20p per useThe town's public toilets sit in the Brewery Street car park, a minute or two from the High Street. Highworth Town Council took them over from Swindon Borough Council, along with funding to demolish and rebuild what it cheerfully called "an eyesore" — the aim being a new building in keeping with the town's architecture. They're open 7am to 7pm every day, cost 20p per use, and are cleaned daily. A directory listing notes a wheelchair-accessible entrance, but it's worth checking before you travel if step-free access matters to you.
Changing Places toilet — Highworth Recreation Centre
Changing Places Free parking outsideSwindon Borough Council lists Highworth Rec as one of the borough's Changing Places sites — fully accessible toilets with space, a hoist and an adult-sized height-adjustable changing bench. Halo Leisure describes the centre's accessible changing room as having a shower, toilet, hoist, adjustable bed and adjustable sink. It's inside the Recreation Centre on The Elms, with free parking and disabled bays right outside. Available during centre opening hours: Mon–Thu 7am–10pm, Fri 7am–8.30pm, Sat–Sun 8am–2.30pm.
