Visit Highworth

From morning coffee to Friday-night chips.

Highworth's independents have you well fed — proper coffee and homemade cake by day, hand-stretched pizza and crisp fish and chips by night, all within a stroll of the Market Place.

Almost everything on this page sits along two streets — the High Street and Swindon Street — so you can wander from a flat white to a focaccia to a fish supper without ever getting out of breath. Here's our guide to who does what, and where to find them.

Daytime

Cafes & coffee

Highworth's High Street does daytime food well. These independents cover everything from a proper cooked breakfast to good coffee and homemade cake.

Weigh It Up

Coffee & cake Refill shop

41 High Street, Highworth SN6 7AQ · 07470 123032 · weighituphighworth.co.uk · Map

Two treats in one shop: Highworth's zero-waste refill store is also a friendly little coffee stop. Mathew and Michelle moved Weigh It Up into 41 High Street in October 2024, and alongside over a hundred refillable dried goods — teas, coffees, herbs and spices, pasta, pulses and eco cleaning liquids — you can settle in for a hot drink and a slice of homemade cake. They hold a five-star food hygiene rating, and they'll happily weigh into your own containers, or just come for the cake. Open 9am–5pm daily.

The Old Bakery

Tea rooms

12 High Street, Highworth SN6 7AG · 01793 764500 · Facebook · Map

Traditional tea rooms in the heart of town, serving breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, with takeaway food and drink too. The all-day cooked breakfasts — including a veggie version — get rave reviews, and the food is locally sourced. It's cosy, friendly and dog-friendly in designated areas, so muddy walkers are in luck.

Bloomfields Fine Food

Deli

8 High Street, Highworth SN6 7AG · 01793 766399 · Website · Map

A proper deli with food to go: fresh sandwiches, soups and quality local produce — locals rate the soups especially. Open 8am–4pm on weekdays and 8am–3pm on Saturdays. The same family also runs a shop and coffee house in nearby Shrivenham. Handy for picking up lunch, or something nice for the weekend.

Make a morning of it. Pick up a coffee, browse the independents along the High Street, and grab deli treats for later — our shopping guide and market page will fill the rest of your morning nicely.

Evenings out

Restaurants

For a sit-down meal, two independents on Swindon Street lead the way — one Italian, one Indian.

Ciao Eatalia

Italian Top rated

26 Swindon Street, Highworth SN6 7AH · 01793 762888 · Website · Map

Highworth's only independent Italian, run by a Sicilian team: manager Gianluca La Porta and head chef Fabio Giacalone. The bread, focaccia and pizza dough are all made in-house, and the hand-stretched pizzas come out of a hot stone oven. It tops TripAdvisor's Highworth rankings, and the kitchen is genuinely allergy-friendly, with gluten-free and dairy-free options. Book by phone or through the website.

Spice Kitchen

Indian

10 Swindon Street, Highworth SN6 7AH · 01793 766886 · Website · Map

A modern Indian restaurant and takeaway in the heart of town. Eat in, collect, or have it delivered to your door — and if you're planning a wedding, birthday or other event, they cater for those too. Tables can be booked by phone or online.

Both restaurants take bookings, and weekends get busy — it's worth calling ahead.

Something quick

Takeaways

Dolphin Fish Bar

Fish & chips

13 Swindon Street, Highworth SN6 7AH · 01793 766346 · Map

Highworth's other chippy, just off the Market Place. Alongside fish and chips you'll find burgers, pies, kebabs, chicken and jacket potatoes — a varied menu that keeps the regulars happy.

Sammy's Chinese Takeaway

Chinese

27 Swindon Street, Highworth SN6 7AH · 01793 762826 · Map

A long-standing local favourite for Chinese food, collection only. Reviewers praise the generous portions, fresh flavours and friendly service — orders are usually ready in 20–25 minutes. Closed Mondays.

Highworth Kebab House

Kebabs & grills

9a Swindon Street, Highworth SN6 7AH · 01793 765119 · Website · Map

Kebabs, wraps, burgers, chicken and kids' meals, with meal deals if you're feeding a crowd. Order online for delivery or pop in — they take cash and card.

A proper sit-down

Pub food

Several of Highworth's pubs serve good food too — here's the headline act, with the full run-down on our pub guide page.

The Saracens Head Hotel

Pub dining

Market Place, Highworth SN6 7AG · Website · Map

One of the grandest old buildings in town, and an Arkell's house since 1883. The restaurant serves modern pub classics made from fresh local produce, with a popular Sunday lunch, plus a covered terrace and garden for fair-weather days.

Before you set out

Opening hours and menus change, especially for the smaller independents — a quick phone call or a look at a venue's website or Facebook page will save a wasted trip. Listings on this page were compiled in June 2026 and are provided in good faith; where we couldn't confirm details from a venue's own pages, we've left them out rather than guess.

Spotted something that's changed? Let the town council know via highworthtowncouncil.gov.uk and we'll put it right.
