HIGHWORTHTown Guide
High ground, common ground

Welcome to Highworth.

A market town on a hill in north Wiltshire — golden stone streets, big views over three counties, a Saturday market that has run since King John granted our charter in 1206, and a community that loves where it lives. This guide is for everyone who lives here, and everyone who's thinking of visiting.

Our town

A story 800 years in the telling

Highworth has been a market town since 1206, a Civil War garrison, a wool town, a coaching stop and — for eighty years — the end of its own little branch railway from Swindon. The high street is a conservation area of golden stone and Georgian fronts, and the tower of St Michael's still watches over the Vale as it has for centuries.

Community

The town that turns up

Highworth runs on volunteers — from Forget Me Knots and BigHighworth to the food bank and Highworth in Bloom. Find out who does what, and how to lend a hand.

The information residents actually need

Who empties the bins, who fixes the streetlights, when the council meets, how to book an allotment, and how to have your say. Plus the practical stuff: broadband and mobile options for the town, and how to stay safe online. We've put it all in one place, in plain English.
