WalkiesA story 800 years in the telling
Highworth has been a market town since 1206, a Civil War garrison, a wool town, a coaching stop and — for eighty years — the end of its own little branch railway from Swindon. The high street is a conservation area of golden stone and Georgian fronts, and the tower of St Michael's still watches over the Vale as it has for centuries.
The town that turns up
Highworth runs on volunteers — from Forget Me Knots and BigHighworth to the food bank and Highworth in Bloom. Find out who does what, and how to lend a hand.
